International Surrogacy

Thinking about growing your family through surrogacy?  You must have many questions.  While each surrogacy process varies somewhat, here is a guide to help you make your decision.  We can assist you to travel to countries where the laws and costs for surrogacy are in your favor.

Your Surrogacy Journey

Surrogacy is a big commitment and your first step is to carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of surrogacy in a foreign country. We are here to help you with any questions, concerns, etc.  Just call or send an email and we will get right back to you.

There are many reasons to consider building your family through international surrogacy:

  • You've tried several options and the costs are now excessive.  International options are less expensive, but not less professional.

  • You are afraid the surrogate could change her mind.  The countries we work in have laws specifically written for the rights of the parents to the child.

  • Medical clinics worldwide have become as professional and competent as those in the USA.  Some professionals are trained in the USA or Europe and then work in their home country.

Making Decisions

There are two types of surrogacy to consider:

  • Traditional – In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is also the biological mother of the child she carries. Her egg is fertilized using sperm from the intended father using intrauterine or in-vitro insemination.

  • Gestational – In gestational surrogacy, the child is not biologically related to the surrogate mother. The embryo is created using an egg from the intended mother and sperm from the intended father using in-vitro fertilization. Once the egg is fertilized in the clinic, the embryo is transferred to the surrogate.

Family Journeys Consultants will work closely with you to ensure you understand the process and are ready to begin.  We are not doctors, but we work with professional clinics in several countries where the laws are written specifically so the parents have all the rights to the child.  Our representatives in those countries are bi-lingual and will work with you and the clinic to help you through the process each step of the way once you arrive. The doctors and clinics will be able to answer all your medical questions through email, conference call or video-chat.

Choosing your Surrogate

Surrogates are chosen based on strict criteria concerning their age, mental history, physical history, personal habits, such as non-smokers, etc.

You will review information on the available surrogates, including medical backgrounds, personal info, legal screening.  You can decide which surrogate is right for your journey together through a review of surrogate profiles.

The surrogate is compensated for her services appropriately and professionally.  Once the surrogate becomes pregnant, the family can Skype wiht the surrogate monthly and receive communication via email.  Translation for those communications is provided if the surrogate does not speak your language.  The clinic will also provide a report concerning the condition of the surrogate and pregnancy development.

Pre Birth Decision-Making

You will be given legal rights during your surrogate’s pregnancy so that you will be allowed to make all medical decisions regarding your child.

Legal Requirements

We work with clinics located in countries where the laws are written so that the surrogate is not the legal parent.  The child will be legally yours at birth and the birth certificate will list you as the parents.  In fact, the child will be the biological child of one or both parents, making legalities simple to complete.  Our staff will assist in obtaining all the documents for you and your child so that you can go to the local Embassy of your country prior to departing for all the details to be finalized.

Immigration Attorney – you will be required to consult an immigration attorney in your country of residence to ensure a seamless immigration and citizenship process for your baby upon return to your home.
